Note with regard to dollars-per-square-foot bids:  These can be useful, but are not always accurate.  The home that you would like to have built, or the two homes you are comparing, must be fairly identical to the comparison project for this number to be accurate.  Here is an example:

Home “B” is the same size as Home “A”, but has a more complex design with more exterior wall to complete.  If your design looks like Home “B”, and my point of reference was Home “A”, we would all end up disappointed.  Compound this with complexity of finishes, and you can see why the more information we get, the better off we all are.  We can use these to get a point of reference, but they should never be used to determine a final number.
